Report on NEDS Open House, May 18, 2008, in Coventry

The 2nd NEDS Open House was attended by at least 100 visitors (based on burgers/hotdogs eaten) plus 20 NEDS helpers from 12 to 3:30 pm, when rain finally ended the show.  All agreed it was a big success.  The Open House was planned and organized by George Hovey and Jim Knox.  Early publicity in local papers was placed by Wayne and Liz English, who, with Ray Shedrick, made signage for roads and parking directions.

Flying demonstrations by Bill Glode, John Cheyer and several other members were appreciated by the crowd.  Harry White and Brian Hathaway put on helicopter demos.  About 10 kids eagerly did the flight training and buddy box flying, which was done mainly by Ron Vernier, with help from Bill Glode, Liz English, George Hovey and Howard Ogushwitz.

The head hamburger flipper and hotdog roller was Al Gobin, who was assisted by Nick Carlo, Joe Lindlau and Ray Shedrick. Dave Paul supplied the grill, but couldn't attend.

Don MacDougall and Ray Shedrick directed traffic flow and the tight parking jigsaw puzzle.

Jim Knox made a one-page handout about the Club and laid out an area for plane display, which held 25-30 planes and building projects.  Old AMA magazines, hobby catalogs and NEDS membership forms were grabbed up by  potential new members.
